Summary: Everyone on Capitol Hill rails about reducing costs of federal IT projects. Our guests today will give a reasoned argument that these costs can be contained with design — by using enterprise architecture.

Mark Forman, Norm Lorentz, and Dick Burk all have decades of experience at high levels of design of large systems for the federal government. They endorse a white paper called “Citizen-Enabling Open Government Executive Summary” that is available at the ACT IAC site, http://www.actgov.org.

During the interview, all three IT veterans take a look at the report card that Vivek Kundra has recently given his 25 point plan. Two deliverables that are behind schedule involve #17 and #20 –working with Congress to consolidate and develop modular software development. From their combined experience, one must take a look at federal IT existing structure to see duplicated systems and unused systems. If you combine the design tools that enterprise architecture provides, you can reduce cost for complex systems.
